Graduate Says uranium to Have Negative Economic Effects
(Following is a letter to the Editor in The Star Tribune 01-09-08)
As a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, I am concerned about the possible long-term impact of uranium mining in Pittsylvania on Hargrave, Chatham Hall and other such institutions in the area.Such mining will not attract future students, but the possibility of doing the opposite is obvious.
Undoubtedly, there will be pressures on faculty and staff of the schools either to support mining or to be neutral on the issue. The stakes are too high for faculty and staff to submit to such pressures. The results of uranium mining will be with us for generations to come.Bill Winn
