Halifax Supervisors to Vote Against Mining?
SCC officials have learned from insiders that the Halifax County Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution opposing any uranium mining and, possibly, exploratory drilling, in Pittsylvania county at their next board meeting in January, 2008. The source believes that there is a good chance that the resolution will pass at that meeting.
Halifax, of course, would be tremendously impacted by any pollution of the groundwaters or water tributaries in Pittsylvania county. Thus, their interest in this issue is of paramount importance to them. Halifax Town council has already voiced their opposition in a resolution passed at their December 10, 2007 meeting.
This is wonderfully important news for Southside Virginia. Now, if we could get 4 of the 6 members of the Chatham Town Council to decide that the issue was important enough for its own constituents to have a special session this month (December) before the two county boards consider the issue in early January.
