What would a uranium mine in Pittsylvania County mean to Southside’s communities, environment and economy?

What can we do about it?

A Free Educational Seminar for Citizens and Elected Officials

Wednesday, April 22, 7:00 p.m.

Averett University Student Center – Multi-purpose Room
Corner of Woodland Drive and Townes Street
Danville, Virginia

What would be the environmental, social and economic impacts of uranium mining in Southside Virginia? Who decides whether Southside Virginia communities will be subjected to uranium mining? We need to know.

Supporters of the mine tout economic benefits. However, a growing number of Southside citizens, understanding the impacts of uranium mining to human and environmental health, their heritage and their way of life are saying, “NO!”

And they’re determined that it is We, the People, who will decide whether uranium mining comes to Southside, not the corporate officers of Virginia Uranium, Inc., the Coal and Energy Commission and the state legislature.

In a democracy, informed decision-making is essential. With this goal, citizens and government officials are urged to attend this free seminar, presented by The Alliance and the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund on Wednesday, April 22, 7:00 p.m., in the Multi-Purpose Room at Averett University’s Student Center in Danville.

Informational handouts will be available, and a question and answer session will follow the presentation.
