On April 13th the Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia suspended the exploration licenses of Western Prospector Group, a Canadian uranium exploration company that has assets in eastern Mongolia.

The authority suspended the licenses for three months due to violations cited by state inspectors from Mongolia’s Atomic Energy Agency dated on April 10.

The areas where violations were reported include Ar Bulag and Ulaannuur-2 located in the towns of Bayandun, Dashbalbar and Sergelen respectively, all found in Dornod province. These are the primary licenses for Western Prospectors Group’s Gurvanbulag uranium deposit.

Mongolia’s Atomic Energy Agency said that if Western Prospector Group is not able to satisfy inspectors that the violations have been corrected, the licenses may be subject to revocation.

“The company should consider the State exploration budget expenditure, study parliament resolutions on strategic deposits and cooperate with MRAM in the activities of eliminating violations,” said L.Davaatsogt, Head of Geology and Mining Cadastre Division.
