The 2009 Energy Technology Summit will be held at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Monday, April 27, providing the summit participants with an array of new energy technology insights, ranging from fusion, wind, solar, biodiesel and carbon energy solutions to electric and natural gas-powered automobiles and trucks.

One of the more interesting program offerings in the summit agenda is a one hour afternoon segment by technology attorney Jeff Mitchell on the federal economic stimulus package energy-funding programs. Amounting to about $90 billion of the $787 billion stimulus package, the session will assist business attorneys, certified public accountants, and business people gain insight and understanding of the new federal programs.

Of the $90 billion for energy-related stimulus, about 10 percent or $9 billion is estimated to be targeted at energyfor small energy firms. Most of it is for later-stage companies that need to start manufacturing, to build solar farms or wind farms.

In about 60 to 120 days several federal agencies will have in-place application procedures for the private sector to begin energy money idea competitions. The foregoing summit program will help enable local legal, financial and business people to make ready for the process and new alternative energy programs.

If interested in attending the energy technology summit or the segment on the economic stimulus package energy seminar, please contact the Southwestern Virginia Technology Council Executive Director Esther Bolling at (276) 679-7800 for specific registration details.
