Comment: At least Dominion is trying other forms of energy but they should forget about the 2 nuke plants that want to build in VA, No Nuke Plants, No uranium mining!

NEW YORK, April 15 (Reuters) - Power company Dominion Resources (D.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and oil giant BP Plc (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday they had started operations at a 400-megawatt wind farm in Benton County, Indiana, that will generate enough power to supply 120,000 homes.

The Fowler Ridge Wind Farm, developed by Dominion and BP's BP Wind Energy arm, is about 90 miles (150 km) northwest of Indianapolis, and could be expanded to 750 MW, the companies said.

Dominion and BP each own 50 percent of a 300-MW parcel of the farm, while BP owns the remaining 100 MW outright. The cost and other financial details of the project were not released.

Fowler Ridge, built by RMT Inc, uses 182 Vestas (VWS.CO: Quote, Profile, Research),1.65 MW turbines and 40 Clipper 2.5 MW turbines.

Power from the 400 MW in operation has been sold under long-term contracts to Dominion's energy marketing arm and to American Electric Power's (AEP.N: Quote, Profile, Research) Indiana Michigan Power and Appalachian Power utilities.

Dominion also owns 50 percent of a wind farm in West Virginia and has new wind farms under development in Illinois and Virginia. (Reporting by Matt Daily, editing by Maureen Bavdek)
