Power Cars With Sun, Not Nukes
YOUR LETTERS
April 17, 2009
The editorial "A Full Tank Of Electricity" [Our View, April 12] did not deal with the subject of nuclear power.
I remain deeply concerned the advent of an electric car economy may mean that more nuclear plants will be built and dangerous plants will continue to operate.
Thus, we would be trading one source of pollution for another.
Traditional fossil fuels would give way to increased radiation emissions and leaks, toxic discharges, and carbon dioxide emitted from the mining, milling, processing and transporting of uranium.
Surely this is not the scenario that is in the best interest of public health.
Electric cars must be powered by renewable sources of energy, and photovoltaic panels should be made available to every consumer who purchases an electric vehicle.
If every parking area and charging station were covered by a roof of solar electric panels, we would have cooler cars and a healthier population.
