From the Star-Tribune, Chatham, VA., Wed. September 9, 2009, Page 11A
Please note this excerpt containing remarks by Henry Hurt (A ProUranium mining dude) from the Star Tribune article regarding Hargrave Military Academy's Centennial Celebration. I have added commentary in red.
"Throughout its long and distinguished history, Hargrave has been a leading influence on the character of out town," says Henry Hurt a past parent and former board of trustees member.
"It was probably born of neccessity, but soon became so much more, attracting teachers who became community leaders and bringing students from all over the world."
In terms of economy as well as community, Chatham would be a much different place without Hargrave or Chatham Hall, and we should never underestimate their importance, " added Hurt. (As a proponent of uranium mining and milling within a few miles of Chatham he is virtually negating the importance of Hargrave and Chatham Hall. We may actually see a Chatham without these institutions if mining and milling of uranium occur. )
My hope is that both schools will reach for more innovative ways to be a more integral part of what our region has to offer. In doing so, we will all benefit in the best of ways." (Perhaps he will propose that Virginia Tech partner with Hargrave and Chatham Hall to infuse funds for a curriculum in mining, milling of uranium. That way, the schools will remain in name. It is doubtful that parents would choose to send their children there.)
(I wonder why the uranium guy was not asked his thoughts on the impact uranium mining and milling would have on Hargrave's future? )
