The Appalachian Mountains, from Tennessee to Pennsylvania, are the quintessential sacrifice zone. As you know, Southside,VA is also a sacrifice zone.

Please watch this short video and learn what corporations and our government do to the environment and human communities in sacrifice zones.

As we speak, coal companies are destroying entire mountains to take out the coal. This process, mountain top removal mining, uses explosives to blow up entire mountain tops, scraping off the seams of coal, and dumping the rubble into valleys and streams below. Hundreds of thousands of acres of once-forested mountains are gone, and more than 1,000 miles of streams have been buried.

Approximately 3 million pounds of explosives (the same kind used by Timothy McVeigh at the Murrah Federal Building) are used every single day to do this.

Keep in mind that this is a regulated corporate activity -- it's perfectly legal and it is perpetrated with the blessing of our federal and state governments. Just like uranium mining.
