Exposed: The Carlyle Group

of the soundtrack

PLEASE NOTE: Translation from Dutch (below) of the first one minute forty seven seconds of this program. The remainder of the video is in English.

The war in Iraq is over.

The rubble is still smoking.

While the first dozers are already entering the country.

After the coalition forces destroyed Baghdad it is now primarily American companies who are to rebuild Iraq.

An interesting point is that these companies usually have people on the payroll who have been politicians. Is this a conflict of interests or a new (global) way of doing business?

One of the corporations that work this way is the Carlyle Group. On their payroll are people like : George Bush (Sr.), James Baker III and old premier John Major.

The Carlyle Group is a private investment bank which doesn't come to the publics attention very often but it is one of the biggest American (ed: USA) investors of the defense industry, telecom, property and financial services.

What is the Carlyle Group? Who are the people behind the name? And how much power does Carlyle have?

(Note: Low bandwidth is approx 100 bps, still too fast for dial-up connections. The MP3 is more suitable for dial-up. The length of the production is about 55 minutes.)

Why have you posted info. re: the Carlyle group? This has no relevance to uranium mining!!!

Unless things have changed within the past few weeks, Greg Beard is a managing director for the Carlyle Group (Carlyle/Riverstone). He also sits on the board of directors of Virginia Uranium, Inc., the company which hopes to mine Coles Hill. That sort of ties the Carlyle Group to uranium mining, don't you think?

Just because Greg Beard sits on two boards of directors for two separate entities does not mean that those two entities are in any other way related. I serve on committees for two non-profits and one for-profit corporation, but it does not mean that any of the three have anything to do with the other. ESPECIALLY since you are talking about the Carlyle Group, which is a much larger and more diversified corporation than VUI. If you have an actual connection other than personel, I would like to hear it. Also, why is anyone shocked that American companies are rebuilding Iraq, or that politicians and CEOs have become interchangeable? Dick Cheney is no more qualified to be VP than I am...he just knew the movers and shakers coming up through the ranks and he played the game and now he is Vice President. I think the minute everyone realized that there were no WMDs in Iraq, then a collective lightbulb should have gone off. This war quickly went from a battle against terrorists to a battle over oil fields and infrastructure construction contracts, and now we have to stay there and clean up the mess we have made.

Again, if you have more information about a connection between Carlyle and VUI, I would like to hear it. If not, I think that your post has brought up an important point: there are way scarier things in this government than a study about uranium mining.

I agree with your last statement, especially if that study does NOT.." determine whether uranium mining and milling in Virginia can be undertaken in a manner that will safeguard the Commonwealth's environment, natural and historic resources, agricultural lands, and the health and well-being of its citizens."

And, especially if that study does NOT determine..." whether the specific plan for mining and milling is appropriate for the proposed site."

And, especially if that study does NOT determine..."the experience with respect to uranium mining and milling in populated areas where rainfall exceeds evaporation and is the current level of technology sufficient to protect those living in proximity to the proposed sites."

And, especially if that study doe NOT determine..."the safety and health record of the uranium mining and processing industry in the United States and elsewhere."

And, especially if that study does NOT...Well, you get the idea! I could go on and on about the deficiencies in the defeated study, but we'll leave that for another time, ehh?

By the way, the above quoted remarks are from the alternative study bill proposed by some House members but rejected by VUI officials as a compromise study.
