$3.3 Billion Contract Given for Savannah River [Nuclear Waste] Site Cleanup

The "Savannah River Site" is the nuclear dump-site near Barnwell, SC that's been accepting "low-level radioactive waste" from several states, including Virginia, for years but which stopped accepting such waste as of June, 30, 2008.

The U.S. Department of Energy on Monday awarded a $3.3 billion contract to Savannah River Remediation as part of the nuclear cleanup at Savannah River Site.


The six-year contract to close the liquid waste tanks at SRS will begin in April.


Savannah River Remediation is a limited-liability company consisting of URS Washington Division, Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Bechtel National, CH2M Hill Constructors and AREVA Federal Services.
